Bathroom Floor Cabinet Buyer’s Guide
A freestanding cabinet is a great addition to any bathroom, both aesthetically and practically! Floor cabinets are great for those renting, as they can be moved from place to place, while they are often slimline and lightweight for easy portability around the bathroom.
There’s a huge range of bathroom floor cabinets on the market and choosing the best one for your bathroom can be tricky. Not sure what to look for? Take a look at this buyer’s guide.
Material
Most floor cabinets for home use are made from MDF. This is affordable, lightweight and easy to maintain, and it’s usually finished with waterproof paint. MDF is easy to paint and customise if needed.
As bathrooms tend to be wet and humid, MDF is a great choice as it doesn’t warp as much as real wood. Solid wood is another good choice, but it’s slightly harder to maintain. For sheer quality however, solid wood is a no-brainer.
Size
Bathroom floor cabinets come in a huge range of sizes. While some utilise excess floor space in the bathroom, others are designed for more compact bathrooms. These tend to be taller but have a compact footprint.
Remember that a cabinet which is too large for your bathroom will make the space look cluttered. Purchasing a slimline cabinet doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing storage, as plenty of tall bathroom cabinets still have a lot of storage for your things.
Number of Drawers
The number of drawers is another consideration, and you’ll need to decide whether to opt for just one or two large drawers, or a few smaller drawers. Your cabinet may also have a cupboard which can be used to store taller items such as cleaning products.
Some cabinets have adjustable shelves and drawers so you can customise the storage to suit your needs.
Ease of Assembly
Of course, ease of assembly will be a consideration, especially those with little DIY experience! Most MDF bathroom cabinets arrive flat packed, usually with instructions and fittings included.
Read reviews before you make a purchase to get an idea of how easy the cabinet is to assemble and remember that you may need an extra pair of hands.
