Material
Cake pans are usually made from carbon steel or silicone. Carbon steel is the most popular option. This is lightweight, hard wearing and a good conductor of heat. Your cake will bake evenly, and the non stick layer means your cake can easily be removed without damage.
The best cake pan material for kids has to be silicone. Flexible, fun and often available in a range of colours, this is a great option if your kids enjoy baking. It cools very quickly which makes it safer than other materials, and it’s extremely lightweight.
Durability
Great quality bakeware will see you through a good few years, so it’s worth investing in premium materials. Carbon steel is the most popular bakeware material for a reason. It boasts fantastic durability and maintains its quality for a long time.
Capacity
The size of the cake pan is measured in either centimetres or inches and refers to the diameter. Cake pans vary in size, with the smallest sizes suitable for tiny dessert cakes, and the largest best for family sized cheesecakes or sponges. Some cake pan sets come with a variety of sizes included, so you’ll never be stuck with the wrong size pan.
Design
Cake pans boast a similar round design, and some will have springform sides or a removable bottom for ease of use. Some cake pans come in quirky shapes, including heart-shaped or with inserts so you can make cakes in the shape of letters or numbers.
Cake Pans FAQ
How to take a cake out of a pan?
Most cake pans come with a non stick layer that makes it easy to take the cake out of the pan. You should first allow the cake to cool completely on a cooling rack. Remove the sides of the cake pan (if the cake has springform sides). If the cake isn’t stuck to the bottom, simply turn the cake over and peel off the bottom of the pan.
If your cake has stuck, take a butter knife and gently slide it between the pan and the edge of the cake. Try your best not to scrape the knife along the pan as this can damage the coating. Once you have slid the knife around the whole pan, you should be able to peel the bottom of the pan away from the cake.
