Plate Size
The standard size is around 30cm, or just over, which will produce a pancake that is dinner plate-sized. Or, the standard size can make up to six small American style pancakes.
Power
1000 Watts is the standard power, but some units can be half that. These less powerful ones will cook, just more slowly.
More powerful units require a sensitive temperature dial to control the heat. There are some crepe makers which go up to 1300 Watts.
Temperature Control
Easy temperature control is key to avoid running the risk of burning your pancakes and crepes. Choose a unit with fingertip control and a sensitive, accurate temperature gauge.
Crepe & Pancake Maker FAQ
How to use an electric crepe maker?
Plug in and switch on, bringing the hot plate up to the required temperature. Then pour on your batter, using a wooden spreader to ensure you have an even consistency.
Watch and wait until your crepe is cooked, and add fillings if you want to before serving. If you feel confident, you can flip the crepe before serving, although this is not essential.
Only use wooden spreaders and spatulas, as metal utensils will dent or scratch the non-stick surface. The crepe maker should be wiped clean after use, when it’s cold, with a damp cloth.
