Floor Polisher Buyer’s Guide
Floor polishers are a handy tool if you have lots of hard floors in your home – they are perfect for folk that don’t want to get on their knees to scrub anymore.
Here’s our buyer’s guide to the best floor polishers.
The design of a floor polisher can make the difference to whether you actually bother to get it out of the cupboard.
The majority of heads are round, but there are handy triangular-shaped heads that hunt down dust bunnies from corners which are worth looking for. A flattened head so you can reach beneath furniture is helpful too.
Some of the more powerful machines have handles that vibrate so choose an ergonomic handle that soaks up shockwaves.
And it needs to be lightweight of course, manoeuvring a floor polisher becomes hard work when it’s heavy.
Look for the most power versus lightweight ratio. Some floor polishers are cordless which is great if you’ve got multiple rooms, but they aren’t usually as powerful – the choice is yours.
Ease of Use
We’ve spoken about weight already, but other important aspects to the best floor polishers are wide ergonomic handles, a long power cable, and targeted cleaning pads.
Pads can be pricey so if they’re included, all the better!
Use soft pads for delicate jobs and scrubbers for stains. The better floor polishers have a colour coding system so you don’t accidentally destroy your oak flooring.
A built-in vacuum is a handy feature, as is a headlight that shows up dried spillages or marks that are difficult to spot.
A powerful machine will provide a quicker, better clean.
A good figure to look for is at least 150 rpm and up to 1000 rpm for a shiny polish. However, these come with a higher price tag.
Lower rpm floor polishers work well too, they just take longer. Purchase according to your patience levels.
The cleaning path will also speed up maters. A wide strip saves time – 25-40cms is the average size.
Floor Polisher FAQ
What is a floor polisher and how does it work?
Floor polishers are electrical scrubbers/moppers/buffers that clean wood, lino, marble, and most non-carpeted floors without damaging the floor surface.
Floor polishers consist of a handle, stem, and rotating floor pads. The floor pads can be changed and there are different types for the clean you need.
For example, soft microfibre pads polish up wood and scrubby pads wash grime from the kitchen floor.
How to use a floor polisher?
They are very simple to use.
Before powering up, attach the correct cleaning pad to the base. Soft for delicate buffing or scrubby for intensive cleans. Then switch on the power and slowly move across your floor.
If your machine has an integral cleaning solution tank, fill this before use and spray as you go.
Once finished, empty the tank and take off the pads. You should check pads regularly and replace them when they wear through.
The best floor polishers save time and backache. If you have hardwood floors that never quite come up well with a vacuum, mop, or hand scrub then consider a floor polisher to take the strain.
Our top recommendation for best floor polisher is the SpinWave Hard Floor Cleaning System for its swivel steering, easy-fill water tank and efficient spinning mops.
