Food Warmer Buyer’s Guide
While food warmers have long since been used for hotel breakfasts and in other commercial areas, they are becoming more popular in the home. Food warmers and buffet servers are a great option for BBQs, family gatherings and parties, keeping food hot until your guests are ready to eat. Many also double up as slow cookers!
Not sure what to look for when it comes to the best food warmer? Take a look at this buyer’s guide.
Number of Trays/Pans
Food warmers come in a range of sizes, with any number of trays and pans. Those with 3 trays are great for home use, as they can keep a homemade stew, rice and other sides warm for long periods of time. For large parties or buffets, opt for a food warmer with more pots and pans included.
Some food warmers come with compartments as opposed to individual pans. While these are useful, as there’s fewer pieces of kit to misplace, they can be a little harder to clean as the pan is likely to be too large for the dishwasher.
Capacity
The capacity is also important, as well as the size of the food warmer itself. Most food warmers designed for home use have a few pans with around a 1.5 – 3L capacity. Those for large parties and get-togethers may have a capacity of up to 10L!
Keep in mind that the larger capacity your food warmer has, the harder it’ll be to store. Few people have space in their kitchen cupboards for a very large food warmer, so ensure you’ve got somewhere that it can be stored out of the way if not.
Temperature Control
Ideally, your food warmer will have individual temperature control. This means that each pan can be controlled separately, so you can keep food warm in one and slow cook it in another.
The best food warmers will have a large temperature range or several heat settings, so you can keep your food at the perfect temperature for long periods of time.
