ScotchBlue Professional Masking Tape for Painting Review

The brand that literally invented what we know as sticky tape, Scotch are one of the leading manufacturers of all kinds of self-adhesive tapes for every occasion. Their ScotchBlue line includes some of the best painters tape available to the UK market.

We got hold of their Multi-Surface Premium Masking Tape, and tested it out on a clean, dust-free wall. The first thing we noticed was that it’s a nice, thick tape that doesn’t tear along its length easily when you take it off the roll. It has a two-week clean removal time, but even after that the tape leaves no residue when you peel it off the wall.

Tesa Low Tack Masking Tape for Indoor Painting and Decorating Review

One of Europe’s leading tape brands, Tesa has specialised in a range of tapes for professional decorators and in-the-know DIYers since 1890. Their broad range of adhesives include what we think is the best masking tape for painting.

The Precision Mask Sensitive Masking Tape we tested certainly isn’t the cheapest option, but it’s worth its price tag due to the razor-sharp lines it leaves on removal. The washi paper they use is incredibly tough and leaves a stunning edge, and because it’s the sensitive masking tape, you can use it on the most delicate surfaces in your home.

FrogTape Green Multi Surface Painters Masking Tape Review

With a recognisable green colour, American brand FrogTape make a masking tape specifically for painters that want clean lines on their walls, ceilings and floors. We tried out a roll of their Multi-Surface Painters Masking Tape and were impressed with the thickness of the tape and the super-long clean removal time. You could mask up your house and leave it for nearly a month without issue.

We also like the protective case that the roll of tape we tested comes in. It means you can put the roll away without worrying about damaging the edges of the tape in a toolbox.  The patented Paintblock system guarantees clean lines, and it really seems to work, if you follow the instructions.

ProDec Advance Precision Edge Painters Tape Review

ProDec are a family owned British business with nearly 100 years of service to the decorating trades. Their name can be found on quality painting products and even the best mask for spray painting. We got hold of their Precision Edge Masking Tape and tested it out on a dust-free surface.

The tape is easy to apply to painted walls but is just as good on metal or glass surfaces. We like how easy it is to remove, and the paint didn’t bleed across like with cheap masking tape. Even though it’s not rated anywhere near as long for a clean removal as some of the competition, it’s a quality option and one of the best masking tapes for painting that we know.

Duck Tape Surface Painters Masking Tape Review

Not to be confused with duct tape, Duck Tape is one of the most recognisable self-adhesive tape brands out there. Their range of colourful tapes for all surfaces are as fun as they are useful, so we knew we had to try out their Multi-Surface Masking Tape to see if it lives up to the job.

It’s a much narrower tape than the rest on the list, which means you have to be more careful with your brush or roller, but the quality is there and it doesn’t leave nasty paint bleeds or adhesive once it’s removed. Seeing as you get four rolls in the pack ups the true length to 200 metres, plenty enough to redecorate several rooms.

Conclusion

Professional results require professional grade tools. If you want to paint clean lines, mark out stunning geometric designs or protect your edges well, you need the best painters tape on the market. We got on well with all the tapes on the list, but the winner has to be the excellent ScotchBlue Multi-Surface Premium Masking Tape. The tackiness was exactly right, there was no paint bleed, and there wasn’t a trace of adhesive left after removal.
