Size
Window films are available in almost any size, so whether it’s a small window in a bathroom door or an entire glass balcony door, you should have no trouble finding a film to suit. Many can be cut to the right size.
Design
Privacy window films come in a huge range of designs depending on their function. Decorative films are often colourful and artistic, available in a huge range of colours, sizes and tints.
If 100% privacy is what you’re after, look for a film that reflects sunlight back. This means that those outside will see a mirror as opposed to the inside of your house, while still allowing you to see out.
Rooms that get a lot of bright light may benefit from a window film that blocks UV rays. These too are available in a range of designs. Simple frosted films are suitable for offices and bathrooms, while blackout window films offer 100% privacy.
Ease of Installation
Most quality window films will have a glue free installation, often just requiring water to stick to the glass. Those that use glue can leave an unsightly residue, so ensure you read reviews before you purchase.
Efficiency
Privacy window films offer varying degrees of privacy, with some providing 100% privacy and others just 50%. Thicker films tend to be more efficient when it comes to privacy and reducing UV rays, and these can also help save you money on your electricity and heating bill by regulating the temperature of your room.
Privacy Window Films FAQ
How to apply privacy film to a window?
First of all, measure your window and cut the window film to size if needed. If your window film has a transparent protective film, this should be gently pulled off. Thoroughly wet and clean the window, ensuring it’s free from dust, grime and fingerprints.
Paste the film to your window, starting at the top. Use your hand to work from the top down so that the film can tightly attach to the surface without air bubbles. If you get an air bubble, you should gently push it to the edge of the film using a credit or debit card.
We recommend applying your window film in warm but not hot temperatures (around 12 to 18 degrees).
How to remove privacy window film?
As most window films don’t use glue, they can be removed very easily. Hairdryers are very effective at removing window film, with the heat produced helping to loosen the film.
Use the hairdryer to heat the outer side of the window, maintaining a 6” distance from the glass. Once the window is warm, you should be able to remove the film, starting at the corner. When it becomes difficult again, use the hairdryer to reheat the window.
Once you have removed the window film fully, you should thoroughly clean your window.
