Punch Ladle Buyer’s Guide
An ice cold bowl of homemade punch is the finishing touch to any house party, but if you can’t stand the thought of empty glasses, you need the right punch ladle.
Punch ladles are fantastic value and highly practical, topping up the glasses of parched guests in just a few seconds. Not sure what to look for when it comes to the best punch ladle? Check out this buyer’s guide.
Material
Punch ladles are most commonly made from plastic or metal. Plastic ladles are extremely affordable and very durable, although they lack the elegance of metal ladles. If you purchase a plastic ladle, be sure to only use it for cold liquid. Plastic ladles aren’t heat resistant, making them unsuitable for hot liquids such as soup or mulled wine.
For greater versatility, a metal ladle is a good option. These are more expensive than plastic ladles but very durable and have a more sophisticated look. They are heat resistant which makes them suitable for serving mulled wine or hot chocolate.
Design
There’s a range of sizes of ladle on the market, although they all boast a relatively similar design. Ladles with a tall, curved handle are best for punch bowls, as they can be rested on the edge of the bowl when not in use. Shorter ladles can slip and get lost in deep bowls of punch!
Look for a punch ladle with an easy pour spout to prevent mess as you serve your punch. Many have a hook at the top of the handle for easy storage.
