Shower Hose Buyer’s Guide
A shower hose is rarely given much thought, but there are a few variations on the market and the right choice can really enhance your shower experience, as well as the look of your bathroom. Buying the wrong shower hose, on the other hand, can result in a low flow rate and a mismatched shower (we don’t know which is worse, so it’s best to avoid both!).
Follow this buyer’s guide to help you find the best shower hose for your bathroom.
Shower hoses come in 4 different lengths, starting at 1.25m and going all the way up to 2m. The larger your shower, the longer the hose you should opt for.
Most shower hoses are made from stainless steel which is durable, strong and resistant to heat, pressure and corrosion. Stainless steel is also easy to clean and usually just needs a quick wipe after use to keep it clean.
The best shower hose for low pressure will have a 10mm diameter, as opposed to an 8mm one. This will deliver more water with less pressure lost, so if you’re after a stronger flow rate, go for a shower hose with a wider diameter.
A leak proof shower hose is essential, especially when it comes to getting a good flow rate. Look for one that’s good quality from a reputable brand to ensure it doesn’t leak.
A universal connection means the shower hose can be fitted to the majority of showers. If you’re shopping for a shower hose to replace your existing one, ensure it comes with universal connections.
Shower hoses that constantly kink are not only annoying, they look terrible! Look for an anti-kink shower hose with 360 degree rotation, which will make it easy to use.
How to change a shower hose?
Shower hoses with universal fittings are easy to change, and there’s no need to call a plumber to do it for you.
Make sure the shower area is completely dry to prevent slipping, then turn off the water. Disconnect the old shower hose by unscrewing it by hand. Remove the washer and keep it aside, then unscrew the shower head and remove that washer as well.
Place the washer into the end of your new hose and screw it onto the shower unit by hand, then do the same with the other end, screwing it onto the shower head. If your washers are damaged, use the new washers supplied with the shower head.
Test the shower for leaks. If there is a leak, tighten the fittings using a pair of pliers and an old rag to prevent scratches, but be careful not to overtighten them.
Showers have a lot of components, and for the perfect showering experience, each one has to be just right. For durability, versatility and ease of installation, it’s the Triton Replacement Shower Hose that claims the top spot.
