Spray Mop Buyer’s Guide
A spray mop can make an important cleaning task a whole lot easier. While lugging a bucket of water and cleaning solution around with you is an effective way to clean your floor, it takes a lot of effort!
Spray mops are quick, simple and lightweight. Simply fill the tank with a cleaning solution or water, and spray as you go. They’re easier to store, and you can easily move from room to room.

Weight
One of the best things about spray mops is they are a lot lighter than traditional mop and buckets. While the mop itself might weigh a little more, there’s no need to cart an additional bucket of water around with you.
Most spray mops weigh under a kilogram, although those with larger cleaning reservoirs will weigh more. If you’re worried about the weight, look for a mop with a lightweight design.
Design
Spray mops come in a range of designs. While some have a trigger handle at the top that releases cleaning fluid, others are a little trickier. If you’re cleaning a large room, look for a mop with a wide head so you can mop the area quicker. 360-degree rotation is a great feature if you’re going to be mopping around furniture.
Some mops have a detachable scrubber, which is perfect for spot cleaning tougher bits of dirt and grime.
Ease of Use
It’s important that your mop is easy to use, to save your time and effort. For bathrooms, a smaller mop head is best, as this can work around the toilet and sink easily.
Ensure your cleaning fluid reservoir is easy to remove and refill. The handle should be a comfortable height for you to mop without straining yourself. Microfibre cloths that can be cleaned in the washing machine tend to be the least effort.
Spray Mop FAQ
How to use a spray mop?
Using a spray mop is very simple. If you have a microfibre mop, there’s no need for cleaning fluid, as you can simply fill the reservoir with water. Start at the end of the room, furthest away from the door, and work back towards the door.
Divide the room into sections, and work on each section at a time. Spray a small amount of water or cleaning solution, then mop the floor in forward and backwards strokes. If you feel you need a little more solution, spray more onto the floor.
If you reach an area of tougher dirt, you can use the scrubber (provided your mop comes with one) to spot clean. This may require a little more elbow grease.
Once you have finished the room, open the windows and doors to allow the floor to dry naturally.
