Water Bottle Buyer’s Guide
Staying hydrated is easy with a reusable water bottle. Far better for the planet than single-use plastic bottles, a reusable bottle can be kept in your bag or on your desk all day – preventing dehydration while also making a stylish accessory.
There’s a huge range of reusable water bottles on the market and finding the best one for you can be tricky. Not sure what to look out for? Check out this buyer’s guide.
Capacity
The size of your new water bottle is one of the most important factors to consider, and the capacity can range from 500ml to over 2L. The more water your bottle can hold, the heavier it’ll be once full. If you’re constantly on the move and lack space in your bag, look for a water bottle with a lower capacity.
Insulation
Insulated water bottles are easy to find and although more expensive, they are well worth it in the summer months. An insulated water bottle will keep cold water cold even if you leave it in the sun or in a hot car.
Material
Reusable water bottles are usually made from stainless steel, plastic or glass. Stainless steel water bottles have good insulation and stand up well to impact. They can be bulky however, and are difficult to clean, but the best metal water bottle will keep your water far cooler than other materials.
Plastic water bottles are sturdy, lightweight and very affordable. They are often transparent so you can easily monitor how much you are drinking. If you buy a plastic bottle, ensure it’s BPA free and run it through the dishwasher before the first use.
Glass water bottles are stylish and sophisticated, although more expensive than metal and plastic options. Glass bottles often come with stylish silicone sleeves so they don’t slip in your hand. If left in the sun, you will find the contents of your glass bottle can get very hot.
Leak Proof
A leak proof water bottle is essential, especially if you’re going to be storing it in your bag with the rest of your things. Look for a water bottle designed to be 100% leak proof, preferably with a silicone seal.
Ease of Cleaning
Reusable water bottles aren’t always dishwasher safe, so this is worth checking before your purchase. Water bottles with wide openings are generally easiest to clean by hand.
