Water Filter Jug Reviews
Water Filter Jug Buyer’s Guide
A water filter jug offers a far more eco friendly way to drink filtered water, as there’s no need to purchase and subsequently dispose of single use plastic bottles. Able to be tucked into the door of your fridge, water filter jugs remove limescale and other impurities from your tap water, delivering tastier, cleaner and healthier water day in, day out.

Design
Most water filter jugs have a similar design and a contemporary look. Go for a filter jug with practical design features such as an easy pour spout, an ergonomic handle and a flip top lid. Those with a smaller footprint can be stored in your fridge door.
Capacity
The capacity of your filter jug usually refers to the total capacity, both filtered and unfiltered water. Keep in mind that a capacity of 2.5L may still only store just over 1L of filtered water. If you regularly run out of filtered water and don’t want to have to wait for more, you’ll need a larger jug. A cartridge that takes up a lot of space will give you less space for water.
Filtration
Most filter jugs come with a 3 or 5 step filtration system. Filters don’t last forever, most with either a 1 or 2 month lifespan. Many come with up to 6 months worth of cartridges included.
Look for a filter jug with a replacement reminder (either on the jug itself or via an app). Most cartridges should be recyclable.
Ease of Cleaning
While some filter jugs can be cleaned in the dishwasher, most can’t, so it’s important that you follow the instructions of the manufacturer. Most filter jugs can be hand washed with dish soap and warm water.
Water Filter Jugs FAQ
What does a water filter jug do?
Water filter jugs have a filter that attracts and holds onto chemicals and impurities. The result is fresher, cleaner and tastier water. In hard water areas where the tap water contains a lot of impurities, a water filter jug can make a noticeable difference to the taste of your water.
Those with a 5 layer system often have an upper net (which filters out impurities like a sieve), activated carbon which traps chemical impurities, and an ion exchange. The ion exchange filter splits apart magnesium and calcium compounds, which are then attracted to the filter beads. The lower net traps any remaining impurities which haven’t been caught by the upper layers.
